Patrick Grant with the three #DebsMuse finalists
On Monday I went along to see Patrick Grant at the Debenhams store in Glasgow. Edinburgh-born Patrick now lives and works in London, but he was in Scotland again to reveal the winner of his search for a new muse (William Kinnear) and to talk about his Designers at Debenhams range, Hammond & Co. The line includes beautiful suiting and heritage sportswear, along with a selection of accessories such as bow ties, pocket squares, bags and brollies. As far as menswear on the high street goes, this stuff is sh*t hot and should be the first port of call for any style savvy chappy.
Sartorially speaking, you’re in good hands at Hammond & Co. – as well as being one of the UK’s best tailors (Savile Row, natch), Patrick is designer at E. Tautz and has collaborated with various household brands, including Barbour. He’s regularly featured on GQ’s best-dressed list (the most recent of which was this look at the Scottish Fashion Awards) and was named Esquire’s best dressed man IN THE WORLD!
As always, Patrick was charismatic and funny, with a glint of mischief in his eye – his mum called him during his Q&A (led by Chris Hunt) and he told us not to tell her he was in Scotland, or she’d be very annoyed with him. I’m sure she doesn’t read The Daydreamer, so he should be safe. Patrick also told us that his style icons are people who dress so well that you can tell who they are even if you can’t see their face – guys like Nick Wooster. (I wonder if Patrick knows that he’s one of those guys?). His top style tip? Cut the belt loops off your breeks (carefully) and always bring your personality to your look.
