Pumpkin Picking

I know, I know – another American tradition that’s made its way over to the UK. But the kids love it and anything that gets them outdoors enjoying some wholesome fun is fine with me.

We went to Ethiebeaton Farm at the weekend, partly because it’s close to where we live but also because a lot of other places had sold out of pumpkins or tickets. It worked out really well because the farm was amazing – lots of things to look at, including Halloween displays, a maze created out of hay bales, a tractor for the kids to have seat in, and a couple of games. They had a coffee van there too which was great for the adults and I’m sure there were plenty of hot chocolates being served to excited kids!

We stayed for about an hour, and the kids picked a pumpkin each, which we took home after breakfast round the corner at Longparke.

The next day we carved the pumpkins in the darkness of the kitchen – even with the daylight savings, the kids were up and ready to go before the sun came up! Seeing their faces light up – literally and figuratively speaking – by the glow of the spooky pumpkin faces means that this tradition from across the pond will undoubtedly become one of ours too.
