The Daydreamer has been a tad neglectful of Beauty Busters Friday, so it’s time to give the beauty section the spotlight! This week, The Daydreamer is all about beauty, so I’m bringing you a beauty review every day from Monday through Friday! First up, Stila.
Stila was originally launched in 1994 by make up artist, Jeanine Lobell but, after the company was sold a few times, it sadly ceased trading. However, earlier this year, Stila relaunched and – lucky for those of us living in Dundee – is stocked in McPherson’s (Broughty Ferry). I was sent some new Stila products to try out and I can tell you that I was super impressed.
The Stila Convertible Colour is a lip and cheek colour compact (£16), but I use it primarily as a cream blush. I tried Camellia, a summery, bronze shade, which is nice and natural for summer time or holidays. I’m off to Australia on Boxing Day and this product is definitely coming with me to add definition to my tanned cheeks. I’ve been a die-hard Clarins cream blush fan for around three years, so for me to actually move from pink to bronze is really quite something! So far, no other cream blush has compared to my regular one, but I used the Stila convertible colour all summer. It’s definitely a product I will buy for the summer and autumn months, while my pink blush I will keep for winter and spring. Top marks!
The other product I love (and have used every day since it was sent to me in August) is the In The Know eyeshadow palette (£25), which can be used wet or dry and comes with an eyeliner pencil. I really struggle to find matte nude or pale eyeshadows – they always seem to have a shimmer, which I find ageing. This palette has neutral colours, from ivory to taupe and cocoa to smoke, and every single one is matte! I love it, there’s a great range of nude hues for natural shading, while the darker colours add depth and definition for a more made-up or evening look. There are a couple of shades in between light and dark, and these are good for a heavier day look without being OTT, or for building up your after hours make-up. The shadow has good staying power too, which is pretty amazing considering I don’t use an eye primer. That said, if I’m going out after work, I do need to reapply but this is pretty standard with most shadows – let’s face it, after nine hours of head holding, eye rubbing and looking at a screen, eyeshadow is doing well to hang on at all! The only gripe I have with the Stila palette is that it’s pretty big (it needs to be, to accommodate the range of colours) and I’d love if there was a mini version to pop in your handbag for touch ups or mini breaks. Other than that, it’s flawless. Like my eyes!
