Prada AW13. It’s the first Prada collection I’ve really liked in a long time, mostly because of the nod to the fabulous Forties and a woman’s silhouette. It’s also the first Prada campaign to feature a black model in almost twenty years. Biracial model, Malaika Firth, stars alongside 90s supermodel, Christy Turlington whose 90s supermodel colleague, Naomi Campbell was the last black model in a Prada campaign – in 1994. I love that Prada isn’t just mixing races in the AW13 campaign, but mixing ages too: Firth is 18, while Turlington is 44. This kind of acceptance is long overdue and I think it’s especially important for brands like Prada – with such massive influencing power – to set a good example to the world of fashion and beauty, and beyond. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a plus size model next season.
