Beauty Busters: Thalasso Spa at Elba Hotels Estepona

As you know, The Daydreamer went to Estepona last month to stay at the amazing Elba Hotel. I had meant to post a review of the spa last week, but my new job has taken up all of my time in the past few weeks. However, I have a day off so thought I would focus on blogging!

So, we visited the hotel in May and booked in to the Thalasso Spa for some chill out time. We had a tour of the Thalasso Spa before indulging in the hotel’s exclusive treatment, Cavaterapia (with cava, magnolia oil, azahar and grape), along with a facial using Natural Bisse products. Even Mr Man enjoyed himself, and the closest he’s come to a beauty treatment is having me massage his hands after a paddle boarding session, although the fact his facial was tailored for men might have helped him to relax. The Cavaterapia was pure indulgence; the therapist has a bath ready for you, surrounded with petals and candles. She pours you a glass of cava from a carafe before blending the rest of the cava with magnolia oil, which she then pours into the bath before you climb in. Bathing in cava? Could you get any more self-indulgent? After a glass of cava and a twenty minute soak, your therapist returns with a fluffy white robe and, lucky for us, took us to another treatment room for another treatment. The facial was so relaxing that I had to be careful not to snore, and the Natural Bisse products felt smooth as silk against my skin, the zesty orange fragrance adding to the rejuvenating experience. Layer after layer of lotion was applied to my skin and by the end of the treatment my skin was fresh and glowing and I felt bright as a button, if a little dehydrated. (I wasn’t sure if that was a result of the beauty therapy or the cava!).

Later, we made use of the Thalasso spa, which uses only sea water; the water from the sea outside the hotel is pumped in and filtered before being used throughout the spa. The minerals are good for the body and it really does feel amazing; it’s like swimming in the ocean, but warm and clean. Bliss. Firstly, we walked through a path of pebbles which led us to eight showers with different levels of pressure, temperature and aroma. You take the showers in sequence, ending with a bucket of cold water which is great for the circulation and metabolism. Fifteen minutes in the sauna helped warm us up again, before forcing ourselves to jump in the plunge pool! Afterwards, we floated in the Jacuzzi and relaxed, enjoying the warm jets and overhead pressure showers.

Once we finished our circuit of the spa and still fresh from our gorgeous treatments, we took fifteen minutes to chill out in the relaxation area, where we found heated tiled beds and refreshments. Needless to say, we returned to the Thalasso Spa the next day. It’s such a shame there isn’t one closer to home – but then again, it’s a great excuse to return to the Elba Hotel in Estepona! I would highly recommend the Thalasso Spa to anyone looking to take some “me” time in sunnier climes, whether it’s as a couple, as a family or even for a long weekend with the girls.
