VAMFF: Jean Paul Gaultier x Target

Day 2 Evening 72 LO

The Jean Paul Gaultier for Target show at VAMFF was a P-A-R-T-Y!

If you were following my VAMFF journey on Snapchat (find me at daydreamer.net), you’ll know what I’m talking about – at one point there must have been at least fifty people dancing on the runway! After the models walked, we were treated to an appearance by legendary Aussie pin-up, Dannii Minogue (who wore a beautiful trench coat) and a set by popular Australian singer Jessica Mauboy (2006 runner-up in Australian Idol, with impressive bouncing-in-heels-down-a-runway skills). They were joined by all of the models (worth noting here that these models ranged in age, gender, size and race) who danced together, laughing and smiling and pretty much getting the entire audience into the party spirit.

Target is a budget/high street store (in the UK, you might liken it to Matalan), which regularly collaborates with top designers and celebrities in a similar way that H&M does. The JPG x Target collection talks to fashion-lovers, while also delivering wearable pieces for the loyal Target customer. There were classic Jean Paul Gaultier styles that are now synonymous with the label – think sailor boy details such a Breton stripes and white caps, underwear-as-outerwear, and leather biker jackets – along with really trend-led pieces such as khaki bomber jackets, blue denim and heavy duty boots, all of which can be worn easily with the wardrobe basics that Target is famous for.

The show was such good fun, it truly captured Jean Paul Gaultier’s flirty spirit and Target’s ‘life is for living’ vibe. Everyone in the building was ready to party with each other, reminding us all that fashion isn’t to be taken too seriously. All the more reason to love Jean Paul Gaultier for Target.
