SS14 Trend: Polka Dots

I love a polka dot, have done for years. My favourite polka dots in my own wardrobe include a Zara wrap dress (which mummy darling has been darning for the past three years, but I can’t bear to throw it out as apart from the odd hole, there’s nothing wrong with it…), a navy and white Oasis dress, a cream polka dot jersey by CC (looks so French when teamed with capri pants) and a Marks & Spencer polka dot pencil skirt. Second to me, my dear friend Candice is the polka dot’s biggest fan – she’s seen regularly sporting monochrome polka dots, whether on her winter coat or summer tankini.

Why do we love the polka dot so? Because they’re so easy to wear! Polka dots are generally girly and flirty and super pretty, but they often move into sexy territory thanks to classic black and mesh fabrics. For fresh, feminine polka dots during the day, think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman; for after hours polka dots, look to Kate Winslet in her Lucia dress from Stella McCartney’s AW12 collection.

The SS14 catwalks were awash with polka dots, in all sizes and colours.
