I don’t get much of a chance to dress up these days, finding myself mostly in activewear (it feels like I’ve spent the past three years in yoga pants!), or maybe jeans at a push if I’m feeling particularly glamorous.
But when the husband and I had a rare evening baby-free to go out for dinner last week, I decided to slip into my new trousers, throw a fabulous coat over my shoulders and lift my spirits by stepping out in high heels. A bit of extra make up and a large gin and I felt like my old self again, for a few hours at least.
We went to the newly opened St Andrews Brewing Co (review coming soon) and even though we took turns in barely being able to keep our eyes open, it felt good to focus on each other for a while (and eat a hot meal from start to finish, uninterrupted). Spending time together, making time to listen to each other, I think, is one of the most important parts of a relationship. It shows interest in and respect for one another. Even though we are loving being a family of four, spending time together as a couple is still great fun and is something to be valued and nurtured – one day, it will be just the two of us again once our babies are all grown up and, hopefully, settled in their own lives.
Despite feeling somewhere near myself in this outfit, I never feel quite right when wearing this coat. It was gifted to me by the PR just before Christmas and I genuinely love it (it’s super soft and I really like the oversize shape) but it doesn’t seem to blend with my personal style and existing wardrobe, despite the monochrome colour palette. So, even though I’m super grateful for having received it as a gift, I have decided to give it away so that someone can love it and wear it. To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is comment on this post as to why you think you could offer it a loving home.
Meantime, I’ll be running around in my stretchy trousers and hoody.
I’m Wearing: top, Next (old); trousers, Winser London (current, gifted); coat, Great Plains (AW19, gifted); shoes, Jasper Conran at Debenhams (old); bag, charity shop.

The coat is gorgeous (you really do suit it aswell) but with having a 10mnth old I’m still not happy with my weight and buying coats is something that has always been a real struggle for me. I just can’t seem to find the right style/shape. Oversized non clingy coats seem to be my saviour!! I certainly would give the coat a lovely home and would be well looked after ❤️ x
Well I have many many reasons for thinking I am the next owner of this rather lush coat !!
Firstly, I adore monochrome, my mother and my aunt were also lovers of this look and have passed it down to me , to the extent that at the recent funeral of my mum , I tried but failed to purchase such a coat ! I came quite close in Abernyte antique centre where I found a Windsmore one but alas too large .
Secondly , I think I would suit it , I’m reasonably tall at 5’7” and reasonably slim and this is not a coat that small curvy girls could carry off quite the same
Thirdly , I have hardly ever won a thing ! Last Saturday I attended a charity ball and found that I had won a raffle prize .. with great excitement I imagined it would be a bottle of champagne, Botox or even hand made chocolates., very sadly it is a treatment for wayward hair .. of no use to me whatsoever as my hair does behave ( mostly )
So that’s that .. my fingers are crossed and I shall go and look out a nice sturdy coat hanger in anticipation!!
Laraine ❤️
Looking forward to the review as I would like to go to St Andrews Brewing Co soon! I personally think the coat is stunning and I would definitely get use from it; looks like the perfect item to fit in with my work life of suit trousers and blouses! Plus, who doesn’t love having a soft coat, and having the choice of coats?
What a lovely post, everything you share is so honest and uplifting! Life can be so busy sometimes, having time together to appreciate each other is special even if you’re both exhausted!
I could give this coat a wonderful home where it is appreciated and taken for walks and outings regularly! I love the geometric monochrome and adore the idea of going about my day in something so cosy.

I would love to win this beautiful jacket. I’ve followed you for a while now and would feel privileged to give this jacket a new home.
Your blog and Instagram page are so inspiring , whether it being fashion , food or mum life . Making me feel less alone in mum life. Thank you .
For mothers day I got my mum a trip for us to go to the theatre we haven’t been out together in about 2 years. Life happens . I would love to wear it when we go out. Dinner and drinks and the theatre it would be perfect … dress it up for this night but also easily dresses down with Jean’s and trainers would look amazing.
Fingers realllly crossed xx
