Hello Daydreamers! Now that ‘dry January’ is well and truly over, it’s time to start thinking about Cosmos and Mojitos again (I recently tried a Mint Julep and was instantly impressed). Cocktails tend to be enjoyed after dark and always require a good outfit, don’t you think?

Evening wear often means embarking on a quest to find a new dress. Whether it’s a taffeta midi for a dinner party, a silk maxi for a summer wedding reception or a full gown for a black tie event, it’s easy to turn to the fail safe option of a new dress. Now, I’m a huge fan of the dress (one step, a quick zip and you’re ready to go) but sometimes I want a little bit more, you know? Sometimes I want something different, without stepping too far outside my comfort zone.

Let me introduce the wide leg jumpsuit.

This particular jumpsuit is from Marks & Spencer a few years ago. The wide leg will never go out of style – it’s eternally elegant and wearable for all. You can’t see the jumpsuit in full, but it has 40s-esque shoulders and a modest V-neck, the waist accentuated by the wide leg. It’s still freezing in Scotland so, for warmth, I chose to wear a cropped fluffy jumper over the top instead of a go-to blazer or tux jacket. Teamed with matching gold cuffs, stacked platforms and a purple leopard clutch, it makes a nice alternative for evening wear and has a certain modern nonchalance about it.

What do you think? Is the jumpsuit a nice alternative to the dress?
