New Florals

For me, it truly starts to feel like summer when the oil seed rape blooms. I love to see it from above, when flying home from somewhere exciting; the yellow squares are a striking, more attractive contrast to the green and brown, but together they make up the huge patchwork quilt that is Britain. Or whizzing by on a winding country road, the stretch of golden flowers flickering, glinting like pieces of gold beneath a high, intense sun. However I see the oil seed fields, the shock of sunny yellow is uplifting, and upon sight a smile always breaks across my face.

Of course, bursts of colour appear everywhere in summer time, from the countryside to the blue skies above and pretty wildflower meadows. Summer is also the easiest season to inject colour into our wardrobes: cobalt, turquoise, crimson, fuchsia, yellow – you name it, the high street has it. However, aside from the odd piece here and there, I don’t actually wear much colour – especially not yellow – but I do enjoy the odd floral print now and then.

This dress is an updated version of one I wore for the blog last year; the shape and design is exactly the same, but the colour has changed from predominately pink to black and white. Despite the feminine prom shape and mid length, the new colour way really changes the look of this dress, making it less girly, less, well, pink. And, if, like me, you veer towards all things monochrome, it’s an easy way to wear feel summery without stepping out of your comfort zone.

I’m Wearing: dress, Debut at Debenhams; sunglasses, Quay Australia; watch, Accurist; bracelet, Topshop (set of three).

Images: Kris Miller.

Location: A field in Angus, somewhere not too far from Crombie Country Park.

Where do you find locations like these? I saw a few “yellow” fields on the way to Edinburgh but couldn’t stop the car. Otherwise I would for a picture haha! The dress looks so cute and love the sunnies. Cutie.
