Over Nighting at Archerfield

A long weekend, a six month old and a border collie can only mean one thing: time for a mini break.

After reading Wendy’s recommendation of Archerfield House Hotel lodges, we decided to take a road trip with le bubs and le pooch to experience them ourselves. Twenty miles south of Edinburgh, Archerfield is an estate on which sits a stunning old mansion house, the resort being popular with brides and golfers.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon, stayed one night and left late Sunday. It was a short trip, but one that we’ll certainly make again, perhaps next time with family. The lodge was huge – three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a cosy lounge adjacent to a dreamy kitchen that epitomised #kitchengoals. Perfect for a weekend getaway with friends or family (we actually enquired about Christmas rates but, unsurprisingly, they’re fully booked for this year), the cost affordable when divided by three.

We ate out at the Clubhouse (a relaxed atmosphere but a high end meal) since it was just the three of us (he had steak, I had sea bass risotto, baby had milk), but to cook up a storm in that kitchen with loved ones would be such fun, and gossiping around the dining table with friends is exactly my idea of a good night out – well, in – these days.

The weather was disappointing (rain and mist) but didn’t spoil our trip; rather, it highlighted how warm and homely the lodge felt. On balmy summer nights though, a night cap on the porch would be blissful, as would a breakfast of coffee (so easy, from a machine) and fresh fruit, and maybe pancakes because, well, if you can’t have them on a mini break, when can you?

Archerfield Lodges are around £500 per lodge per night.

With thanks to Archerfield for having us to stay.
