The Daydreamer Goes To: Le Mathurin, Paris

Le Mathurin is a 4* boutique hotel situated in the prestigious La Madeleine district of Paris. For exploring Paris, it’s perfectly situated in the heart of the city; located near the Place de l’Opera, there are metro and bus stops just a block away which will take you anywhere and everywhere in central Paris (you can buy a five-day ticket for train, bus and tram for 35 EUROS). Amble through Parisian streets until you reach Rue Saint Honore, where you can window shop your way down to the River Seine and stumble across famous sights such as the Musee du Louvre and Place du Concorde.

The hotel itself is very cool. The interiors are dark but colourful; aubergine striped walls look beautiful as a backdrop to green and purple armchairs, fun artwork makes you look twice, and classic white orchids (which appear to be everywhere) bring a sense of peace and relaxation. Le Mathurin has a luxury, high end vibe that comes with the attentive concierge and excellent service but – with just 54 rooms and a small but perfectly formed spa – it’s a stylish home-from-home, and this comfortable atmosphere is evoked by the plentiful but intimate seating areas, and the various shelves lined with books.

Arriving in our room we found it to be dimly lit and thus cosy, without being stuffy. Two French windows opened out to the small but busy road below (don’t worry, it’s quiet in the dead of night), giving views of a monument and garden to the left and the busy Parisian street to the right. The classic windows let in natural light and provide a welcome a rush of fresh air, which is important when spending so much time in one room. Room amenities included a walk in wardrobe in addition to the standard wardrobe (swoon), a Nespresso machine (praise the coffee Gods) and L’Occitane bathroom products (sigh), all of which went down a treat and enhanced the hotel’s initial impression of feeling at home, in super chic surroundings.

What did I really love about our room? The feeling of space in a fairly compact area, the heavy blackout drapes, the excellent shower and the separate loo/bathroom. What did I love about Le Mathurin as a hotel? The curious yet inoffensive interiors that kept me interested no matter how many times I walked around, the privacy that comes with being a small, boutique hotel, and the brilliant, brilliant location. If you’re planning a city break or business trip to Paris, I would highly recommend Le Mathurin as an excellent base that you’ll be glad to get back to after a hectic day of sight-seeing or meetings.

I’ve literally gone green with envy reading this. Oh how I’d kill for a break in Paris (sans kids of course!) at the Le Mathurin it looks like heaven. The heavy burgundy colour scheme is so opulent & relaxing ahhhh bliss.

Paris is so beautiful, and this was a great hotel for location and for interiors. You must go. 😉 x
